Lucy Williams

Bio

Lucy is the Head of Family and Childcare Department, and one of the firm’s Senior Directors.

Having joined the firm in 2014, Lucy deals with the Department’s most complex cases - more specifically, care proceedings concerning injury or sexual abuse.

Lucy is a parent representative, handling matters that involve significant areas of law, such as non-accidental injury and physical abuse cases, which typically concern allegations of shaken baby syndrome; fractures; bruising; and sexual abuse.

Lucy has successfully represented parents in numerous cases that have been heard in the High Court and Court of Appeal, some of which have been anonymously publicised within national news. Lucy has vast and considerable experience in the field of complex cases, and often works alongside Leading Counsel; gold standard medical experts; and other notable professionals.

Lucy is a member of the Family Law Advanced Scheme, currently representing clients all over the country, and is able to accept instructions across England and Wales.

Lucy has a formidable reputation in the local area for offering honest, accessible and compassionate advice, and has achieved much success in retaining children in the care of their parents.

Notable Cases

• Successful representation of a Mother on an application to discharge a Care Order. The child was subsequently returned home to the care of mother following several years in local authority foster care.
• Successful representation of a mother in a case heard at the Court of Appeal, whereby mother was in a relationship with a sex offender that she subsequently ended. The Court of Appeal overturned Care Orders made by the lower Court, resulting in lower-level Supervision Orders for Mother instead;
• Successful application to discharge a care order before the High Court in relation to a child who had spent a period of four years in foster care;
• Successful representation of a mother in care proceedings, who was accused of attempting to murder her 6-week-old baby;
• Successful representation of a mother in a non-accidental injury proceedings. Local Authority withdrew their case;
• Successful representation of a mother in non-accidental injury proceedings, where she was absolved from inflicting any injuries, and the child was subsequently placed with mother;
• Successful representation of a mother in care proceedings, with issues of alcohol abuse, where the children were rehabilitated to mother’s full-time care;
