What are my options during a police station interview? 

If you are interviewed under caution at a police station, you have three options during your interview:

1. Answering Questions:

You can choose to answer all the questions put to you by the interviewing officer. This will allow you to advance an account at the earliest opportunity. You must be mindful that anything said in interview can be used as evidence, and often Police ask difficult questions to catch you out.

2. Remaining Silent ("No Comment"):

This involves answering “No Comment” to all questions asked by the Police. This is a way to protect yourself from self-incrimination and potentially force the police to prove their case without any information from you. However, if charged and brought to court, your failure to provide an account may be taken into account by the court as evidence.

 3. Prepared Statement:

This is a written statement that can be provided at the beginning or during the interview and then you proceed by answering “No Comment” to all questions asked by the Police. This allows you to advance your account but avoid answering difficult questions.
