Lucy Williams, who is a Senior Director and Head of the Family Department, as well as Gina Hughes-Mclaughlan, a Trainee within the department, have recently assisted a Mother in care proceedings, whose case was heard at the Court of Appeal in March 2023.
Alongside skilful representation from Patrick Llewelyn of Angel Chambers, the Judgment handed down today confirms the team have successfully persuaded the Court of Appeal to overturn a decision made by the Family Court at Swansea. The original decision of the lower Court subjected Mother’s children to Care Orders until they reached the age of 18, but the Court of Appeal’s decision means that the family will have a significantly lower level of intervention from Social Services moving forward. This is a fantastic result for the family, and formalises public law working group guidance in this area into case law for future proceedings to rely upon.
